Here is one that I will go after next month in west Florida.

There is another bigger than him but no photo,I seen him once at about 250 yards, thats a no shot for me

He gave me the slip last time.

See the direction he is looking? there are 2 trees in the middle of the food plot, behind those trees all the way back to the tree line is my ground blind.Cant even see it.

I killed a nice doe off this plot last year

Don't know what led me to do it but I went to the same blind this morning.

It was moon bright last night and I got in a little later than I should have so I didn't take any of my luxuries out of my pack.I put on a primer, put the barrel in the rest and went into scope world.

My set up is very comfortable so I just look through the scope (on 3x) most of the time.

these are the first shots from this gun.

It has a Simmons 3x9x50 on it

Fluted

No swabing all day.

significant blow back in the breech area and the BP looked awful but it never misfired.

Maybe I'll use some teflon tape on this BP.

The targets are printed on standard printer paper 8.5 x 11

I don't know about everyone else, but here in the northeast I'm having one hell of a time trying to find Pyrodex Pellets on the shelf in .45 caliber, either the 30 grain or the 50 grain. Nobody's stocking and nobody's re-ordering, and those .45er's who do find them are apparently cleaning out the racks from what I've heard from the venders... What's up?

What makes it especially hard here in Massachusetts is that residents cannot, by law, purchase ammunition components over the internet... ...

Here I go again… too tired from work to do anything but punch the keys. Hoping though to get out to the gun range tomorrow after work. I re-positioned my scope, so I don’t expect to get much done except to “get on paper”. Anyway...back to the subject matter.

When it comes to accuracy with a modern muzzleloader, we hear some shooters tell us that excessive velocities with certain bullets from magnum charges will yield fliers and poor groupings. Can’t argue with that one. But it ...

This is just an fyi...

I'm always looking on the new technology market for state-of-the-art .45 cal. smokegun bullets that will prove to be both accurate on the bench and effective on game. After all, isn't that what we all want?

I like the simplicity of Powerbelts, and do not use sabots in my .45's. Out of curiosity, I recently inquired to the HORNADY people about their relatively new "Hornady FPB's", which are now trying to capture a share of the Powerbelt market. They ...

It’s now raining outside this morning which kinda killed my plans big-time today, so I figured I’d pass a little time on the keys.

Having grown up in the backwoods of Pennsylvania I was always fascinated at a very early age with observing whitetail deer in the wild. After 45 years in the woods I still archery hunt for deer, and every now and then I manage to get lucky enough to take one with the bow ! Over the years I have had much more success simply getting close to deer than I have ...

That way I can re-live once again those great memories and details as if it just happened yesterday. I dug out my original "Field Notes" for this hunt, so here's the story behind a buck that fell to a .45 Caliber CVA Hunterbolt:

While I have nothing personal against attorneys, they can somehow sleep at night knowing they made something out of literally nothing just to make money. I recently posted a topic regarding the use of solder inserts with .45 caliber Powerbelts. A concerned and conscious forum member justifiable brought up a valid issue on safety and liability and I thank him for ...

Took the Hawken out again with 40gr pyrodex RS, .015 patch and .440 round ball. I was shooting off my sand bag rest and at 50 yards.

I also shot some 285gr Buffallo Conicals at the same target (marked red) with 80gr RS and i did not like the group at all.

I took it back to the house and cleaned the barrel with a few patches and loaded up 3 powder tubes with 70gr RS and the round ball combo.

No good!

1) Place a separation line between the announcements/stickies and the topics. This separation is useful in allowing ease of reading.

2) Widen the forums about 15% and push the font size for everything up a point or two. This will make reading them easier.

3) Get some separation on your main page. I would recommend that you go into the admin panel, hit the general tab, choose catagories and forums, ...

Unfortunately, the Powerbelt abandoners are quick to tell everyone of their bad ( and usually first ) experience using Powerbelts on game. While gun making technology has improved the ability of mass-producing modern smokepoles to handle heavier loads, technology cannot change the limitations of blackpowder or the physical attributes of pure metals (i.e., lead) found on the Periodic Table of the Elements.
